G.I. Joe - "America's movable fighting man" was a line of
military action-figures produced by the Hassenfeld Brothers
of Pawtucket, Rhode Island (now known as Hasbro today),
back in 1964. The initial product offering represented four
of the branches of the U.S. armed forces: Army, Navy, Air-
Force, and Marines.- The term G.I. stands, in popular usage, for Government Issue and became a generic term for U.S. soldiers.
- After numerous changes and revisions over the passed five decades, G.I. Joe still exists to this day, although the name G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero now represents an entirespecial missions force, rather than just a soldier named Joe!
