Coronavirus Update: Telebriefing for Programs Serving People Experiencing Homelessness
Fueled by the Delta variant, COVID transmission increased substantially in the month of July. Since July 1st, daily new cases have increased 8-fold, hospitalizations are up 289% and the daily test positivity rate is up 391%. And unvaccinated people are bearing the brunt of the spread. Between May 1 and July 17 of this year, our county had 3,167 hospitalized COVID cases: 92% were among unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals. These trends contribute to the certainty that the vaccines are working as intended: although vaccinated people are seeing a rise in new COVID diagnoses, they are primarily experiencing their infections not as severe illnesses that bring them to the emergency room, but as bad colds. As the data shows, unvaccinated people simply cannot have the same level of confidence that infection with this virus will lead to mild illness. Public Health will conduct a telebriefing to update you on the latest COVID-19 response, discuss current masking requirements, as well as other safety protocols, and we’ll answer your questions and listen to your feedback.
